Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

7:59 AP.  Dreadmill.  Confession, for about a week I've had slight dicomfort on the upper part of my shin, on the medial side, a few inches below my knee. I feel it when I first start running but then it warms up and eventually disappears.  I can feel it a little bit walking around throughout the day, particularly when going down stairs.  It's really not painful, just annoying, and nerve racking when I'm only 19 days away from the marathon.  From everything I've read it's not acting like a stress fracture or a shin splint.  In fact I can't find anything that really describes it.

I would be nervous, too. I don't even know what I'd do. Probably just ignore it and hope that it doesn't develop into pain at all.

I hope that it just stays in the annoying phase for you! Have you tried any icing or ibuprofen or anything to relieve the discomfort?

Niggling pains are common before a marathon -- but you should tell your body to wait until you are tapering ;-).

Roll on a tennis a ball... it is going to hurt. And ... do ABC's with your feet (both sides) while holding up your leg (or laying the leg on your knee). Finally, you need to do some foot flex and points (20-30 on each side) -- or walk on your heels (with your toes pointed up). Good luck!

Tracy--I iced it after I ran today, although ironically that is when I feel almost no discomfort. Maybe I should use a heating pad instead!

Bonnie--you always have such good advice! ABC's--done, flex and points--done, walked on heels, looking around for a ball. This is my new daily routine.

Whatever you do DON'T try what I did today!! Seriously it would get your thoughts off your shin however. Basically chalk it up to PHANTOM pre-marathon psychosis. JK. I am sure there is a reason, just don't give it too much of one. Also read the book Ultramarathon Man. That will boost your pain tolerance. Hang in there friend. I am counting on you to pave the way!!! : D

it may just be some tightness in the shin, I have had this and icing did not really work for me,

you could try repeatedly moving your foot from the floor, up to your knee and back down as fast as possible for say 30 seconds which should fatigue your shin muscle and help strengthen/stretch it out
