Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

8:18 AP.   Busy day--orientation at my new job in home health.  Although learning all the paperwork is a bit daunting, I think I am going to really like this job.  I get to work pretty much independently, work around my schedule with my family, and I will really enjoy working with my clients to get them healthier and keep them out of the hospital and out of nursing homes.  There is a lot of teaching involved with patients but I like to do that.  There are a few procedures that I do not have much experience with but they seem willing to teach so I am not too worried about those.  This job is definitely right up my alley.  Anyways busy day and not much time for a run.  Did 5 surges of practice 5k race pace during the run.  No pressure for the 5k tomorrow I am just going to break in those new racing flats and run however I feel like at the moment.

Good luck in your 5k tomorrow!!!

I like your attitude regarding your new job. My dad is 88 and has a hard time getting around, especially since a stroke a couple years ago left him nervous about falling. He lives out of state so I can't help him much, but he has been having home health care people coming in for a couple months now. He raves about how good they are at teaching him exercises to build up his strength, and says he can walk a lot better now.

It's kind of a vicious circle for older folks like him. They are nervous about falling, so they don't exercise or walk around as much as they used to. Then they lose muscle mass and are more susceptible to falling because they don't have the strength to keep themselves well balanced.

There is a geriatrics conference next week that specifically addresses the importance of exercise for aging seniors, and how it can help keep them out of nursing homes.

Well, enough rambling... Good luck - I'm sure you will be helping a lot of people!

That's great that your dad is having a good experience! The agency I am working for really emphasizes patient teaching and wellness.

Sounds like a perfect job to work around your family! Good luck on your race!
