Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

9:18 average pace.  I am still stiff and sore but decided to dust my legs off and warm them up a bit so I could get some good stretching in.  50 crunches, some planks, and some tea stands afterward.  It actually felt good to get things moving.

Yesterday I went to the running store and 30 minutes later walked out with a pair of racing flats--adidas adizero mana-- I am going to start some experimenting, maybe in a 5k in a few weeks, although I doubt I will have recovered much in the way of speed by then.

way to warm up thpse legs today. :o) and way to treat yourself to some new shoes. I was thinking yesterday that my running shoes are 3 years old! (yikes). But I have replaced the insoles, so they still feel good. I wonder how long they will last me.

Hi April, hope you're feeling better and less stiff! You ran so well last weekend!! You should do great in a 5K - you have a natural talent for speed!! :)

New shoes--cool! Are they the bright yellow ones?

I have a pair of the adizero LT which I think are pretty good, apparently the LT stands for light which figures. Good way to spend the prize money!

Camille--if they still feel good then they must be working fine! You are the opposite of ChrisM--he has running shoes for every day of the month LOL

Adele--Thanks! I feel bright-eyed and bushy-tailed this morning!

Chris--they are bright orange and white, and very very light!

I fear racing shoes. I like my clunky stability shoes.

Good recovery run. Do you have a plan of recovery for the next couple weeks, or are you just going to go by feel?

BTW, nice guns in the new pic.

From seeaprilrun on Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 16:02:14 from 72.205.231.223

Tracy--I am afraid of racing shoes too, so I figured a no-pressure 5k would be a good way to break 'em in and see what they are like. As far as recovery I am just going by feel--definitely going to run daily as always but no workouts or long runs for a little while until I feel mentally ready to "train" again. It looks like I will be transitioning jobs very soon so that will take enough energy and stress! I am sure in a few months here I will be eyeballing a fall marathon with a goal in mind and forming a training plan, but right now I don't want to think too much about it.

April-- two and a half weeks from now let me know if you feel like running a 50 mile trail run....I am interested in knowing what I might feel after my marathon and three weeks later run up a mountain. I am still laughing at myself. Those shoes probably have the number 19 written all over them : D (meaning sub-19)

Julie... I'm in pain just thinking about that! Wow!!! When are you doing all this?

From seeaprilrun on Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 16:20:36 from 72.205.231.223

Wow Julie I will let you know! As of right now I cannot stomach the thought of running 50 miles up a mountain ask me next week where I am mentally....it seems that needs more time to recover than the physical part..strange?

From Camille on Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 16:43:42 from 63.229.64.142

I think the hardest part of running long distances is the mental part. I'm constantly having to tell myself that I can do this. My brain keeps telling me that I can't.

From SlowJoe on Wed, Apr 14, 2010 at 16:45:49 from 131.59.200.80

Let us know if you think the flats make any difference. I'm intrigued but can't quite justify it since I'm a lowly amateur.

Camille, May 15th Ogden Marathon then June 5 Squaw Peak 50 mile trail run!! HaHa I am still laughing. I laugh in the face of fear. Some movie quote somewhere.

"I laugh in the face of danger... ha ha ha ha"... Lion King. :o)

Julie, all I can say is WOW! I just registered for the St. George Marathon (fingers crossed). If I get selected, it will be my first marathon. I'm excited and freaked out. People like you and April are inspirational to me.
