I accidentally ran 100 miles in November 2013.  it was hard.  I threw up a lot.  decided to do a better job next time

I did it again on purpose October 2014--Heartland 100 winner and CR 17:38:37

Sub 3 hour marathon--SOMEDAY!  Done!

 

New long term goal:  ....run enough to feel kinda like I did when I was fit

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.  
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

Yuck.  Jogged one mile to the starting line, passing a bank sign that said 81 degrees.  Lined up, by mile 2 had pretty much given up.  I felt terrible.  I just tried to keep moving at a steady pace and called it good.  One mile jog to cool down.  I ran this nearly 3 minutes faster last year.  I was also in shape and 14 flippin pounds skinnier.  I am trying to be patient.  In my fantasy world, I would come back from injury to former level of fitness quickly but it isn't working that way.  Back to base mileage and working on that weight.  I'm determined now, what a reality check.  Walked right by the post-race food, ate small portions at lunch, drank lots of water.  I'm serious about it this time.  Oh yeah, and no more beer after the kids go to bed at night.

On the surface that looks like a bad time for you (although still #2 in AG for a big race - wow!) but the heat is worth a minute or two. And if the 2 seconds/mile/pound rule is true, you could cut another 3 minutes off just by returning to last year's weight. So all things considered, it's maybe not such a long road back. 4 months before St George is plenty of time, I bet. Keep up the good work and you'll get there.

Thanks for the encouragement Joe. I think the 2 second per mile per pound rule is eerily accurate. I started today, eating tomatoes and turkey for supper.

I agree about the heat, it really messes with a speedy race time. DANG HEAT!

You are one of the fittest women on this blog, it will all come back. And you will lose those 14 pounds in no time! You are determined and tough.

HEY, we are together on this one (although my injury was not near as severe, I have just been a slacker since March). I have a good 12-14 pounds to get off of me to be where I was last year. No more cookies for me!!! We have 4 months until we meet and we will BOTH be back to our skinny selves by then, right????

I'm sure when April's back to buring 8000 calories a week by running, there will be more leeway! Actually, did I even mentioned beer? I used to love enjoying 2 or 3...or 6 or 10 beers after the kids went to bed, but I quit drinking a couple years ago. Now I just eat a lot of ice cream, but I guess that's probably not a good replacement if you're going after weight loss.

So can I move to Utah now or am I damaged goods?

no worries April-- I recall you mentioning about HEAT and YOU don't mix well (was it Houston?). I completely understand--- heat = early fatigue. Try wearing the ICE WATERED CAP IN THAT WEATHER YOU ARE HAVING OVER THERE!! and pray next Saturday over here doesn't turn in to a MELT ZONE!! Our mountains are still OVER-covered with snow-- flooding is imminent. But the heat is what is going to kill!! I am NOT good in the Heat either. Don't think to long about this race-- you are fit. : D.

April! Sometimes that heat makes or breaks everything! However, I still think your time is GREAT! :)

I feel you on the weight gain. I gained 10 while injured, I have 5 off so far, and I need to lose 11 more to be back to my marathoning weight from last summer. It's hard! Soooo hard. It's hard to be good during summer time too. Don't worry, things will click. Keep your chin up!

April, good race, chalk it up to the heat, you are doing great. Your high finishing place is a good indicator that you are doing much better than you think. The heat is a killer, especially at anything over a 5K.

No beer anymore. I don't want to get turned down at the Utah border, although I will be driving in from Vegas(it was s lot cheaper to fly to Vegas and rent a car then to fly into Saint George). Thanks all for the encouragement. I'm glad I'm not the only lady here that lets 10+ pounds creep back on so quickly.
