I'm a single Mom.  I work all night as a Paramedic and chase my two daughters all day so I don't sleep.  I miss when I could just go out and run every day. It will happen again.  I'm retiring at 50 with my public service pension.  11 more years and Mama is gonna rest.

Well, I wanted a 5K PR so I incorporated the 2-loop 5k nearby into my long run.  Warmed up 3 miles 9:00 pace then did some strides.  The race started and I went out suicidally trying to stay with Mary Green, who is an incredible master's runner that rarely races locally but when she does she creams everybody.  First mile 5:57 which is ridiculous, then died to to a 6:12, 6:17--which put me through 3 miles in 18:27, and had the course been 3.1 on the dot and had I mustered up anything resembling a kick perhaps I would have gotten a sub-19, but such was not the case.  The course measured long, but there was a lot of curving and dodging the walkers on the second loop so that it probably what happened.  Oh, and since it took me 55 seconds to polish off the last .16, showcasing my severe lack of kick, that was a problem.  I could kick myself for not kicking.  I need to learn to pace these things better!  I am still glad that I got a giant PR out of it so I can't complain.  Cooled down 12 miles at 7:49 pace.

COOLED DOWN FOR 12 MILES???? You are crazy! And in the 7's is a cool down? I am not on the same planet as you.

GREAT RACE! I think pacing yourself on a 5k is harder than on a marathon. I HATE that distance and avoid it at all costs.

OOh man, you just about had it! Looks like you still held it together pretty well on miles 2 and 3 even after that speedy first mile. 5Ks are so painful! Great job today, you are reaching another level for sure.

ummmm your first mile of your 5 k was faster than the first mile of my 3% dowhnill grade at 8300 ft. UMMMMMM. NOW YOU ARE MAKING ME LOOK REALLY LAZY!! INCREDIBLE BREAK THRU 3.16 miler!! RUNNING AROUND WALKERS IS THE PITS IN A RACE!! WAY TO STILL DO WAY WONDERFULLY!!! I LOVE IT!! :D. seriously YOU DESERVE A LOT TODAY so I hope you treated yourself. here's to our last 20 miler!! see you in a few short weeks.

From allie on Sun, Sep 11, 2011 at 12:21:19 from

great job, april! congrats on the PR. 5ks are definitely not easy to pace, especially when your legs are trained for a marathon. you ran great today and you're on your way to running great at SGM!

From flatlander on Sun, Sep 11, 2011 at 20:25:28 from

Congratulations on a wonderful race, it must be very gratifying the way things are falling into place for SGM.
