Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

Track day.  At 4:30am the storm was brewing and I knew I had limited time so jogged one lap then launched the 3 mile trial.  Total time 19:01, 11 seconds faster than last week.  By lap 8 it had started to sprinkle and the thunder and lightning was getting close.  I considered stopping but decided to be an idiot and run in the storm.  The last two laps it was full blown storming, with some killer wind on the backstretch.  As soon as I was done I bolted to the car for cover and drove to the Y to finish out 4.75 on the treadmill, all at 8:34 pace except the last two quarters I picked up to 7:30 and 6:40 pace to hurry and finish.  Splits for the trial were 1:35, 1:32, 1:33, 1:33, 1:33, 1:35, 1:34, 1:37, 1:37, 1:36, 1:36, 1:35.  I wish I could have seen my watch and known how close I was so I would have had a little incentive to bury that last quarter and get under 19.

Decided to be an idiot? I question your decisions sometimes.

Excellent job, time to smash that 5k PR!

oh my flip!!! I --briefly-- considered trying this workout after reading your last three weeks of AWESOMENESS and immediately I felt nauseated and terribly anxious-- I think I would pass out after a few laps. I have no incentive alone and if a storm came surely I would have convinced myself it was all in VAIN. YOU ARE SUCH a SUPERSTAR!!! still I think should I EVER try this? it's April's TV show and the fine writing is "don't try this at home". I am in awe. I still have not achieved the sub 20 5k. My last 5k race was that one in 2009. I fear choking, gasping, CPR from the UNskilled, if you know what I mean. : D.

so exactly HOW do you time this run? apparently no watch looking until the finish? really? what control!! do you go the same direction the entire time? and I am wondering about track distance, my garmin says it is .52 miles for two laps yet two laps is supposed to be shorter than 1/2 mile in meters? there is a staggered start on the track with a white line for a finish so maybe that is why I get the time diffential. Let me know. Someday I think I SHOULD try this but I seriously DO NOT WANT TO. YUCK. ONCE AGAIN my friend we live too far apart. Remember when we timed our 200s in 2009?

Julie--if you lived closer we could totally burn up the track together!! I time this with my garmin, hitting the lap button every 400 meters. I measure long too...my garmin measured this as 3.05 miles, but I think that is because I am not good at hugging the curve. If I could see the watch I would be tempted to look, but this was in the dark so I can't see it anyway!

Wow, are you just going to keep dropping time every week? Incredible, nice going!
