Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

8:50 average pace.  Nice and easy on the dirt roads.  Taped my foot for the run but was doing okay without the tape so I will try not taping on Wednesday or Thursday for a shorter run and see how it feels.  I slept in and ran in the heat but I am trying to acclimate myself because it is supposed to be a 100 degree day for the race Saturday which means during the morning of the race it will probably be in the high 80s to the low 90's toward the end.  I'd better get used to it now!  I am determined to eat right all week so I  am starting the day off with a big bowl of raisin-walnut oatmeal and milk.  I am even going to give up my daily scoop of ice cream and eat sugar-free jello and fruit instead! Just wait 'til after the race though then I WILL have my ice cream!

I think I missed something. What race are you doing this Saturday? And kudos to you for eating well all week : D

It will be my first half-marathon. I have never raced anything longer than a 10k so it will be a whole new experience!

Man, that is hot for a race. Good luck with that! Wear a hat and dunk it in water every once in a while!!!

Have a good week, enjoy the healthy eating, and dream of ice cream!

Oh, and so glad your foot is feeling better!!!

I am excited for you. I thought your race wasn't until September. What is the half called? Is it paved or trail? My first 1/2 was on dirt back in 1995 and I came in at 1:50. It was an out and back course. Back then it was the hardest thing I ever did. I wasn't doing anything like the runs you are doing right now. You are going to be zippin thru it!!! Can't wait for race report day : D

Hey Julie! It is described as a mix of both pavement and country roads, with flat parts as well as hilly parts, particularly around the lake. We will be driving up Friday and camping overnight, and will drive the course and check it out! It sounds pretty challenging. I figured I would just go for 7:00 pace or a little faster on the flat fast parts and try not to lose too much time when I hit the hills and gravel!
