I accidentally ran 100 miles in November 2013.  it was hard.  I threw up a lot.  decided to do a better job next time

I did it again on purpose October 2014--Heartland 100 winner and CR 17:38:37

Sub 3 hour marathon--SOMEDAY!  Done!

 

New long term goal:  ....run enough to feel kinda like I did when I was fit

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.  
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

8:29 average pace.  Kept the pace conversational but did not force myself to go slower because I did not want to stay in the heat longer than necessary.  Will run slower the rest of the week when I am not going as far.  Felt fine other than the stifling heat and humidity.  My husband brought me gatorade and checked on me every 30 minutes.  We are under a "heat advisory" today and no end in sight all week and probably longer--it's supposed to hit 105 today.  No races on the horizon.  I either work or have clinicals most Saturdays throughout July so probably no races until August.  The next 5 or 6 weeks I would like to get adjusted to 60 miles a week, and every other week or so try on a long run for size.  I also want to be consistent about doing some core workouts 3x/week.   Got some shoes with my prize money--I should be okay with shoes now for at least the next 3 months--nice to get shoes without dipping into the family budget!  Great shoes--really light and flexible--had no problems running in them today.

Good workout April. I start my runs at 6:30 am to avoid the heat, it helps a lot.

Congrats on the prize you won on the last race, can't think of a better way to pay back the investment in this hobby.

Also, we shall both be working on our base mileage the rest of summer! I only have that 8k race that got postponed in may...

I am actually looking forward to a while of good ol' base mileage. I really want to build my fitness and then come August be ready for some serious racing!

Excellent idea April, a good base its essential. I run at 6.30m too but its an easy short run, then my harder stuff in the heat in the afternoon... typical mad englishwomen... mind you it isnt as hot as were you are Im sure :-)

I am sweating for you reading that. How, as you put it, "STIFLING"!!! Try this- before your runs put your shirt in cold water, squeeze out excess water, then put it on. It will probably be dry by the time you get back, sadly. But it really helps you stay cool. Also, wear a visor. And if you can soak that it cold water too. Be thankful you are not near as nutty as those that run the 100 mile runs thru Death Valley : )

That's an awesome suggestion Julie I'm going to try that tomorrow! I will NEVER run 100 miles through death valley--I would rather run through a blizzard(and very nearly have!) then run in heat!
