Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

1:36:50/9:06 average pace overall.  All slow miles, except for in the middle.  It took me a while to warm up, as always, but after about mile 5 I felt the wind in my sails and was drifting under 9:00 pace and just could not make myself go slower.  I figured since I still have until Saturday one Sasha mile or so would be good to get the speed out of my system, and I needed to practice running hard on asphalt in the heat, since this will be my race conditions Saturday.  I ran one mile in 6:30  and .17 more at 6:24 pace.  Didn't exactly feel comfortable since this is basically 5k race pace but it did feel sustainable, although I suspect mile 3 at this pace will take a lot of concentration.  It was sufficient to take the wind out of my sails and I ran the rest of the way slowly.  I think I can break 20:00 on Saturday if I am in the right frame of mind.  All super slow miles the rest of this week to rest mind and body and see if I can make it happen.  Did 2 sets of strength drills afterward.

1,000 miles for this super-speedy woman!

Congrats and super runs. I hope you break that elusive sub 20 this weekend.

You can do it...you can do it...you can do it...you can do it...you can do it...you can do it

Hey speedy!!! I need to take Sasha's advice he gave you. I was reading it thinking at first he was giving it to me then he said something that didn't pertain to me and I was confused and then realized it was under your blog. How funny!!! anyways awesome speed. 630 and faster, how awesome!!! I don't know how my friend did it (under 20). She made it look so easy. I so hope you do it. I really think you can. I am having doubts but I am trying to be positive. How is your course for this Saturday? Darn the heat though. I think I'd take hills over heat, hope you don't have both. It is supposed to be 80 this Saturday, but 60 probably at the start. I guess I should check the weather to be prepared. It has been raining/overcast for weeks. Brief sunshiny moments. Sorry long comment.

Julie--To be honest I have some doubts about making it. I think it is within my abilities, but I really have to be mentally strong that day and if the course is hilly(which I doubt, this is Kansas) that would make it tough. It is a new 5k, a first-timer, so I don't have any feedback on the course. I am guessing it is more or less flat, with some undulating mini-hills, which aren't bad but they do force abrupt pace changes, albeit brief, and can throw your rythm off. The major problem is that it will be hot hot hot. Hopefully there is a breeze--that will save me. Anyways, thanks for the encouragement and good luck on your similar quest to break 20! It's a big breakthrough speedwise and I know I'm on the brink(and so are you) but we will see Saturday!
