Personal:

I was a single mom.  Two times over.  We all survived, despite the fact that I make atrocious decisions.  Then, I met a man I didn't deserve.  And he loves me so much.  And I love him. We lived in sin and bought a house for two years then hired a judge and officially got married(to our great delight and also the delight of our mothers), then a month later he was diagnosed with cancer.  Well we survived all that and he's 100% fine now.  But, we're really out of shape and really busy with kids and jobs and running just isn't my priority and there's so many other layers to all of it, but I'm running anyway.  This is my failure blog now.  Just to log that one run a week if I snag it.
Somehow that matters and I want that run recorded.

early early early am.  7.1 at 8:42 AP.  Plan on some more this evening.

pm.  8:34 pace on the treadmill except for the last .1 at 6:00 pace.  I was looking at the Prairie Fire(wichita) marathon course map today and counted 68 FREAKING 90 DEGREE TURNS AND TWO HAIRPINS!  Is that ridiculous or is it just me?  How many minutes is that worth off a time?  Not happy.  Not happy at all.

Nice miles today. Someday I will attempt the 2 a day thing...

That course sounds like it's not going to be good for a PR...s0rry to hear that!

AT LEAST 10 seconds per mile!!! That is ridiculous. Why?

From allie on Mon, Aug 23, 2010 at 22:48:23 from 174.23.203.103

yes, that is a ridiculous amount of turns. it will be hard to find a rhythm.

3 turns per mile seems like a lot. I'd be surprised if they didn't make a mistake charting it out or something. When I'm tired, it feels hard to even cross to the other side of the street, but maybe that's just me.

Just don't get dizzy with so many turns. =)

From Burt on Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 12:26:14 from 206.19.214.144

Hopefully there's the same amount of right turns as their is left turns. Think of how muscular your hips will be when you're done.

From ChrisM on Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 16:26:20 from 86.179.253.205

Hopefully it is a mistake!

If not then you could try turn it to your advantage (for competitive purposes) if you start practicing them?

I definitely didn't have much of a rhythm when I did the half the other week with loads of turns!

From experience I think the key is accelerating coming just out the turn, since most people tend to slow for the turn and it nearly always catches them by surprise, mwahahahaha!

From seeaprilrun on Tue, Aug 24, 2010 at 17:49:35 from 68.103.248.145

Unfortunately, it is not a mistake. I have finally decided that I am going to take your approach Chris--practice accelerating around corners even when very tired and catching my rythm again quickly. This will be a punch in my time but then I will be all the more motivated to get after it in Houston.

Also, if I jog/bike the course a few times and know it by heart, I can run good tangents and reduce the angle of the corners.
